State Finalist for Student of the Year

Redditt named state finalist in Student of the Year program

Adeline Redditt has been named a state finalist in the Student of the Year program sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Education.

Redditt, a fifth grade student at South Beauregard Upper Elementary and the 2023-2024 Beauregard Parish Elementary Student of the Year, represented Beauregard Parish in the Region VII program in February where she was selected from among students representing eight school systems to advance to the state program.

“The State Department of Education sponsors this program annually to recognize outstanding students in schools across the state,” explained Kari Ifland, Student of the Year coordinator for the parish. “Students are selected from fifth, eighth, and twelfth grades and must have maintained a 3.5 GPA of higher over the course of four consecutive schools years, be active in school and community activities, and be involved in leadership positions for their school and community.”

In addition, students must participate in a timed writing assignment and a 15-minute interview at each level of the program as well as complete a 50-page portfolio documenting their activities and involvement, she said.

Adeline is a member of the SBUE Student Council, 4-H, and Drama Club. She also participates as a show team member for Beauregard Parish competing in Livestock Expos and shows across the state where she has earned Grand Champion, purple ribbons, and first place for her rabbits.

She is active in Little Dribblers and takes piano and tumbling. She is a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church where she participates in the youth group. She has volunteered for the Ragley Historical Society, SBE Angel Tree, Fearless Mission, and the Knight Food Pack Program.

She is a banner roll member earning all A’s in her elementary courses and has won numerous awards at her school including Academic Excellence, Drama Club, Knight of the Year, Outstanding Student, Top Reading average, and has been published in the Beauregard Students Write.

“Adeline is a great student both inside and outside the classroom,” said SBUE Counselor Casey Bollich. “She is a leader, she is always striving to become a better version of herself, and she is always kind to her fellow classmates. Adeline is a joy to be around, and I am so proud of her and her many accomplishments.”

Redditt will represent Region VII in the State Student of the Year program for elementary students in March where she will interview with a panel of judges from across the state. She is one of only eight fifth grade students in Louisiana to advance as a state finalist. She will participate in an awards program in Baton Rouge in April where the state winners will be announced.

“Everyone at South Beauregard Upper Elementary is proud of Adeline and her accomplishments in the Student of the Year program, “said SBUE Principal Wesley Henry. “Adeline upholds, to the highest degree, our core expectations of students at SBUE: Strive for Excellence, Be Respectful, Uplift Others, and Encourage Growth! Adeline’s record speaks for itself, and I am so pleased that others around the state get a chance to meet this wonderful young lady.”
