EBE students attend Fort Johnson STARBASE Youth Program

Fifth grade students from East Beauregard Elementary attended the Joint Readiness Training Center  and Fort Johnson Department of Defense STARBASE Youth Program. The fifth grade students are participating in challenging, hands-on activities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) activities. This is  the second year that EBE students have participated in the new program at Fort Johnson.

Students attend the program once a week for five weeks and practice skills which foster collaboration,  digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem solving. Students interact with military personnel to explore  careers and observe STEM applications in real-world scenarios. The program provides site instruction, mate rials for experiments, and mentorship opportunities.

The program is available on bases nationwide and is sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. The facility, the result of a four-year effort to bring to fruition, is housed at the Child Development Center on the base.
