The week of November 18-22, 2024, has been designated American Education Week by the National Education Association (NEA) and will be recognized in Beauregard Parish schools, according to Superintendent Larry Hollie.
“National Education Week is a time set aside to celebrate public education and to honor all the people who ensure that our children receive a quality education,” he said.
The Beauregard Parish School Board employs approximately 890 employees who work daily to teach, promote safe learning environments, feed, and transport students in the district on a daily basis.
The NEA designates each day of the week for a special emphasis. Monday is the Kick off day. This is a day for schools and the community to renew their commitment to education and to recognize that it takes the investment of the entire community to provide quality public education for every child.
Tuesday is Family Day, spotlighting the importance of family involvement in our public schools. Studies continue to show that parents who are involved in setting regular homework times, checking work progress, limiting screen time, and supporting classroom and school activities make a positive impact on their child’s success in school.
Wednesday is Educational Support Professionals Day. This day is set aside to honor all employees who support the educational process. School custodial staff, bus drivers, food service, nurses, maintenance, technology, and administrative support staff keep our schools operational and create safe, healthy, and productive learning environments.
Thursday is Educator for a Day, emphasizing the importance of our professional teachers in the classroom. It is important to understand both the positive aspects and the challenges of teaching which promote support for the professionals who teach our children on a daily basis.
Friday is Substitute Day, honoring those individuals who help bridge the gap to providing quality education and services to our students when a regular employee has to be out.
“Every employee in our system has a hand in creating positive school atmospheres conducive to learning,” Hollie explained. “We celebrate American Education Week to emphasize that every stakeholder in our community and in our schools has a part to play in promoting excellence in education for every child in Beauregard Parish public schools.”
