Teacher Appreciation Week recognized in Beauregard Parish schools

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated in May each year to recognize the significant contributions of professionals in the classroom. The National Education Association (NEA), the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the Association of Professional Educators of Louisiana (APEL), and other groups promote the event annually. Beauregard Parish schools will recognize Teacher Appreciation Week May 5-9, 2025.

The theme for the week is “Teachers Light the Way to Brighter Futures!”

“Teacher Appreciation Week is a time set aside to honor all the educational professionals in our classrooms who ensure that our children receive a quality education,” said BPSB Personnel Director Tammy Crain.

The Beauregard Parish School Board employs 520 professional staff who are certified and qualified to teach in their chosen fields. These professionals go above and beyond to provide education with excellence to the 5,645 students enrolled in the school system.

Professional staff are required by the state of Louisiana to have a four-year college degree and participate in a one-year Residency or complete an Alternate Certification program. In addition, teachers must meet professional development requirements throughout their careers.

Teaching is a challenging profession. Teachers are expected to be educators who are experts in their fields as well as counselors, helpers, classroom management specialists, encouragers, sponsors of extra-curricular activities, coaches, and much more.

Teaching is a time-consuming profession. Teachers spend countless hours outside of the workday and contracted days preparing creative and engaging classroom settings and lesson plans, grading assignments, attending events, sponsoring co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and in many ways giving above and beyond expectations to educate and support students.

“Teacher Appreciation Week is a time to recognize those teachers who have made and are making lasting contributions to our community through the lives of our students and who light the way to a brighter future for us all,” Crain concluded.
