About Beauregard Parish Pre-K Program

TYPES OF SEATS:

Beauregard Parish Pre-Kindergarten contains classrooms within the school district that are funded by LA-4, 8(g), Education Excellence, and Special Education grants as well as some local funds. A limited number of Tuition-based seats are also available at all campuses as well. The Pre-K program provides daily education to 4 year olds in Beauregard Parish.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION:
An educational evaluation is offered for children ages 3 through 5 years not enrolled in Kindergarten who may have special needs. Children are serviced in homes, early learning centers, and within the school system.  Contact the Pupil Appraisial Department for more information at (337) 463-6732 ext. 10021

EARLY CHILDHOOD COMMUNITY NETWORK:
As directed by Act 3, Beauregard Parish has worked together to create a unified system of high quality, publicly-funded options to families to ensure more children enter school kindergarten ready. This network is comprised of a local early childhood community network that includes every publicly funded Pre-Kindergarten classroom and type III Early Learning Centers in the parish.

BEAUREGARD PARISH LEAD AGENCY:
The state coordinates these community networks by designating a Lead Agency for each community to coordinate essential activities, specifically observations and enrollment. The Lead Agency also serves as fiscal agent.

1. Conduct administrative functions for the community network
2. Coordinate CLASS observations assuring that accurate observations are conducted for all Infant, Toddler and Pre-K
classrooms and feedback is provided to all programs
3. Coordinate the birth-to-age-five enrollment and the state funding application for the community network

Requirements & Policies

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION PROCESS.

Important Beauregard Parish Early Childhood Pre-K Program Information

Eligible Residents: Any student residing within the Beauregard Parish School System may apply. Parents applying from outlying districts must pay the tuition rate, pending the school administrators approval and must provide transportation for the child.

Entrance Requirements: Student must be 4 on or before September 30 of the enrolling school year.

Policies:

Acceptance

Pre-K is not a universal or mandatory program. Seats are limited and acceptance is based on the number of seats available. Priority is given to grant qualifying students.

Attendance/Tardiness

The Early Childhood Program is funded by several grants and the BPSB General Fund. The majority of this funding is based on student attendance. If your child has excessive unexcused absences your child may be at risk of losing his/her position in the program. Tardiness should be kept to a minimum. A doctor's excuse is required for an excused absence. We follow the BPSB Attendance Policy for excused and unexcused absences. A child is considered habitually absent or habitually tardy after the 5th unexcused absence or fifth unexcused check-in or check-out within any school semester.

Dress Code

The Early Childhood Program follows the dress code established by the Beauregard Parish School Board. Visit your school’s website for a specific dress code.

Tuition

Parents who do not fall within the income guidelines and if seats are available, will be required to pay a tuition fee.

Payment Schedule:

Nine monthly installments are due the first school day of each month starting September through May.

Your child will lose his/her position in the program if tuition is not paid. A tuition agreement form must be completed at registration. Tuition is tax-exempt and receipts will be issued after each monthly payment.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided to all students based on the student’s home zone. Out of Zone families need to contact the school or transportation department for correct documents. For transportation concerns, please contact the transportation department at (337) 463-5332

Emergency School Closure

The Early Childhood Program abides by the same rules as the Beauregard Parish School System. When school closures are announced, the program will close as well. It is important for the school to have a current working phone number on file in your BPSB Parent Portal.

Special Education

We offer educational evaluation services for children ages three through five years who may have special needs. We have a variety of classroom settings to meet different needs: regular, self-contained, and inclusion. Our goal is to provide information to parents and educators which will assist in future educational programming.

Parental Involvement

Several parental involvement activities will take place throughout the school year. Beauregard Parish School Board encourages parent involvement. We value the importance of working together to meet the needs of your child. Please check with your school for the policy and procedure to follow concerning visits to the school and classroom.

Medical Concerns:

Vision and Hearing Screenings

All Early Childhood students will undergo a vision and hearing screening. Parents will be notified by letter concerning the scheduled dates. If a child is referred for further vision or hearing screening(s), a referral letter will be sent home requesting a follow-up appointment with a physician. A copy of the completed physician's form needs to be returned to school for your child's records.

Medication Administration

The Early Childhood Program abides by the Beauregard Parish School Board’s medication policy for administering medication. Please check with the office at your child's school for pertinent information and forms.

Immunizations

If your child takes additional shots during the school year, please send a copy of the updated shot record to school with your child. It will be placed in his or her file.
